Glufosinate Ammonium Synthesis Process 3

The Aluminum-Strecker process is a newly developed production process for Glufosinate Ammonium in China. Unlike the Glyphosate process, this method does not bypass the challenging synthesis of MDP during production. Although it requires low equipment investment and has relatively low overall cost, it involves the use of toxic substances such as Potassium Cyanide as raw materials, resulting in the generation of a large amount of solid waste and wastewater, thus increasing the environmental cost.
 
The synthesis process of Glufosinate Ammonium is as follows:
 
Reaction 1: Reaction of Phosphorus Trichloride, Chloromethane, and Aluminum Trichloride
Under appropriate reaction conditions, Phosphorus Trichloride, Chloromethane, and Aluminum Trichloride are mixed and reacted to generate a complex intermediate. This step may require heating and stirring to facilitate the reaction.
 
Reaction 2: Dissociation of the complex intermediate
The complex intermediate is exposed to suitable reaction conditions to undergo dissociation. This process releases Diethyl Methylphosphonate.
 
Reaction 3: Generation of Phosphorus Aldehyde
Diethyl Methylphosphonate reacts with Acrylaldehyde Phosphorylation to produce Phosphorus Aldehyde.
 
Reaction 4: Strecker reaction
Phosphorus Aldehyde reacts with Amino Cyanide in a Strecker reaction. This step connects the Amino Cyanide group to the Phosphorus Aldehyde molecule, forming the desired product.
 
Purification steps
After the Strecker reaction, the product may contain impurities. To purify Glufosinate Ammonium, corresponding purification steps are required. These may include hydrolysis and other separation and purification methods.
 
In the end, the purified and processed product will be Glufosinate Ammonium.
