Thiacloprid, the active ingredient, is a novel chlorinated neonicotinoid insecticide developed through a collaborative effort between Bayer CropScience in Germany and Bayer CropScience in Japan.

The mode of action of Thiacloprid differs from traditional insecticides. It primarily targets insect nerve cell membranes after synaptic junctions. By binding to acetylcholine receptors, it disrupts normal nerve transmission in insects, leading to the blockage of nerve channels. This results in the accumulation of acetylcholine, causing abnormal excitement in insects, followed by systemic spasms, paralysis, and eventual death. Thiacloprid exhibits potent internal absorption, contact toxicity, and stomach poison activity. Importantly, it does not exhibit cross-resistance with conventional insecticides such as pyrethroids, organophosphates, and carbamates, making it effective for managing insecticide-resistant pests.
